‘Nurture is to cherish, care and protect so that people can grow and learn. Nurture involves developing physical, social and emotional resilience in order to allow children and young people to thrive. Nurture is a holistic approach that encourages people to develop healthy relationships.’
Nurture is to educate.
Foxes Nurture class aims to support children across Years 4, 5 and 6. Children attending Foxes class also remain an active part of their main class, spending mornings and all day Friday with Foxes and afternoons with their main classes.
Foxes gives the opportunity to assess learning and social and emotional needs and give help that is needed to remove the barriers to learning within a smaller classroom setting allowing individual needs to be met. The relationship between the children and staff is always supportive focused around trust and relationship building, providing a role model for children. Each morning Foxes do their daily check in to see how we are feeling and develop a readiness to learn. Food is shared at snack time with much opportunity for social learning, helping children to attend to the needs of others, with time to listen and be listened to.
As the children learn academically and socially they develop confidence, become responsive to others, learn self-respect and take pride in behaving well and in achieving.
Everything the children have learnt within the Foxes’ environment is encouraged and used within the wider environment of the school. Children also receive the same curriculum entitlement as their peers.
